AFCON 2015: GUINEA EYES STRONG COMEBACK AFTER SECURING QUALIFICATION
Absent from the previous edition, Guinea has successfully booked its place for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Equatorial Guinea. Finishing behind Ghana and ahead of Uganda and Togo in Group E, the Syli National overcame difficult circumstances, including having to play all home games in Morocco due to the Ebola crisis.
Now looking ahead, head coach Michel Dussuyer has laid out the team’s ambitions:
“We are already looking ahead to the final phase with the ambition of having a very good run. We are aware of what we are capable of doing. We also know it will be a very tough field. Our first objective is to get out of the group stage and qualify for the quarter-finals.”
Dussuyer emphasized the importance of proper preparation and hopes for a fully fit squad, something that has been an issue in the past.
As Guinea awaits the AFCON 2015 draw on December 3 in Malabo, fans and officials alike are hopeful for a favorable group, and for the national team to make a memorable return to the continental stage.
