Senegal Coach Alain Giresse Prepares Squad for Crucial CAN 2015 Qualifiers Against Egypt and Botswana
Senegalese national team coach Alain Giresse is set to announce his squad of 23 players for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2015 qualifiers against Egypt and Botswana. The squad will be unveiled on August 25 during a press conference, according to sources within the Senegalese Football Federation.
The first qualifier is scheduled for September 5 in Dakar against Egypt, followed by the return leg in Gaborone on September 10. Giresse, currently in France attending the launch of the 2014-2015 Ligue 1 season, has been actively monitoring the progress of Senegalese players to build a competitive team.
The task of assembling the squad is challenging, with key players such as Demba Bâ, Cheikhou Kouyaté, and Diafra Sakho recently transferred to new clubs and still adjusting to their environments. Despite these obstacles, preparations are being supported by improvements in infrastructure, including the anticipated completion of renovations to Senegal’s Senghor Stadium by August 15, and logistical support such as access to the presidential plane for travel to Botswana.
Giresse, appointed in January 2013, faces pressure to deliver better results following a mixed record of two wins and nine draws in his first 11 matches in charge. The coach reportedly earns a monthly salary of 15 million CFA francs.
With the backing of the Senegalese Football Federation and state authorities, all eyes are on Giresse as he strives to guide the Lions to success in the upcoming qualifiers and satisfy the expectations of a passionate footballing nation.
