Mozambique Secure 2015 AFCON Qualification Spot After Dominant Win

Mozambique have become the first team to guarantee their place in the next round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after a resounding 5-0 victory over South Sudan on Sunday. The Mambas’ comprehensive win puts them in a commanding position, making it almost impossible for them to be overtaken as they head into the return leg.

In other notable results from the day, Kenya edged Comoros 1-0 in Nairobi, while Tanzania secured a narrow 1-0 win against Zimbabwe, with John Bocco scoring the crucial goal. Swaziland and Sierra Leone played out a 1-1 draw, and Madagascar stunned Uganda with a 2-1 victory in the day’s earlier match.

Here are the full results from Sunday’s AFCON qualifiers:

  • Mozambique 5-0 South Sudan

  • Madagascar 2-1 Uganda

  • Tanzania 1-0 Zimbabwe

  • Kenya 1-0 Comoros

  • Swaziland 1-1 Sierra Leone

  • Burundi 0-0 Botswana

Mozambique’s dominant performance has put them in a strong position to advance, while other teams like Madagascar and Tanzania will now turn their focus to securing their place in the next stage. The competition for the remaining spots continues to intensify as teams battle for qualification.
