Sofiane Feghouli: “We’ll Go to Equatorial Guinea with a Conquering Spirit”
After a strong showing at the World Cup and a dominant run in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Algeria was among the first teams to secure its place in the tournament. Speaking to France Football, Sofiane Feghouli expressed both disappointment and determination as the venue change from Morocco to Equatorial Guinea became official.
“The most damaging thing is the timing,” Feghouli lamented. “In our heads, we had prepared to play in Morocco, a neighboring and brotherly country with similar conditions, and the possibility of having our supporters in large numbers. The climatic conditions and the quality of the pitches would have been a definite plus for our style of play.”
Morocco’s withdrawal due to Ebola virus concerns forced CAF to shift the competition to Equatorial Guinea. Despite this disruption, Feghouli emphasized that the team remains focused on the goal.
“We’ll go to Equatorial Guinea with a conquering mindset to go all the way. I’m not looking for excuses. The difficulties will be the same for everyone. Now, we are a group of experienced players and we know what to expect.”
With their ambition intact, the Fennecs aim to live up to their status as one of Africa’s strongest teams and chase continental glory.
