Senegal Prepares to Host Egypt in Crucial AFCON Qualifier
Senegal will welcome Egypt on Friday at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium for their opening match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Morocco.
Striker Dame Ndoye, once tipped for a Premier League move, is aware of the challenge posed by the Pharaohs. Speaking to Waasports, Ndoye urged fans to rally behind the team.
“Egypt remains a great opponent, a difficult team to play against, and it’s been a long time since we last won. To meet this challenge, I invite our fans to forget the past and mobilize. We will play collectively to win,” he said.
This fixture marks the return of the Lions of Teranga to their home stadium after nearly two years. The team had been forced to play their home matches away following a CAF suspension triggered by crowd disturbances during a match against Ivory Coast in October 2012.
Kick-off is scheduled for Saturday, marking a significant step in Senegal’s bid to qualify for the AFCON finals.
