Cameroon Edges Côte d’Ivoire to Set Up Final Showdown with Nigeria at 2014 Women’s AFCON
The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon secured their place in the final of the 2014 Women’s African Cup of Nations after a hard-fought victory over Côte d’Ivoire in Wednesday’s semifinal clash. The decisive moment came from Christine Manie Patiance, who netted the match-winning goal and later shared her elation with the media.
“We didn’t prepare for just any match. The encounter was very physical,” said Manie. “We worked on our physical strength, but it was our mental strength that made the difference tonight. We knew it was a knockout match. We put the necessary energy into the battle.”
The Cameroonian captain also praised their opponents, highlighting the fine margins that often decide high-stakes matches.
“We found a good Ivory Coast team. As the coach often says, a match is decided by details,” she added.
Cameroon will now face Nigeria, who defeated South Africa in the other semifinal, in a much-anticipated final showdown. The two powerhouses will battle not only for continental glory but also for bragging rights as the best women’s national team in Africa.
