Afrik.com has reported a development regarding the Togo national football team just hours before the release of the final 23-man squad for CAN 2013. Concerns surrounded the status of goalkeeper Kossi Agassa, who has been out of communication since the beginning of the preparations. According to a team member, the coach has not received any updates from Agassa.
Agassa has reportedly cited a knee injury sustained during the last day of the Ligue 1 championship in December 2012 as the reason for his withdrawal from the competition. He stated, “I am affected by the cartilage knee; I can’t play for two weeks. I am currently in the recovery phase.”
The goalkeeper’s last public statements date back to early December, where he mentioned contemplating his future in the national team amid the crisis sparked by Emmanuel Adebayor’s declarations, later echoed by Daré Nibombé. With Agassa’s uncertain status, coach Didier Six will need to make a decision among the other goalkeepers currently in training: Baba Tchagouni, Atsu Mawugbé, Saibou Safiou, and Laomey Nugniméton. Agassa has not played for the Togo national team since October 2012.
