The Ghana Football Federation (GFA) has announced that the Black Stars, in preparation for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), will refine their lineups in the United Arab Emirates. Despite initial considerations for preparations on the African continent (Kenya or Ethiopia), the GFA cites the excellence of the infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, comparable to that of South Africa, as the reason for choosing Abu Dhabi as the training site.
The training camp in Abu Dhabi is scheduled to last for ten days, from January 7 to 16, 2013. According to Kwesi Nyantakyi, the president of the GFA, this period will provide the necessary concentration for the players to prepare for the tournament. Additionally, it offers a suitable venue for playing friendly matches, which are deemed essential for the team’s preparation.
Before heading to Abu Dhabi, the Black Stars, under coach Kwesi Appiah, will regroup in Ghana from January 2 to 6. Ghana is placed in Group B of the CAN and will commence its campaign on January 20 against the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The other teams in Ghana’s group are Niger and Mali. The Black Stars aim to secure their fifth continental title in the tournament.
