Despite widespread criticism of refereeing quality during the 29th African Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2013, Mauritian referee Rajindraparsad Seechurn stood out for his notable performance. Seechurn expressed pride in his third participation as a referee in the African Cup of Nations, stating to Le Mauricien, “I am proud of my performance.”
During the tournament, Seechurn officiated in five matches. He served as the fourth referee in the Ethiopia vs. Zambia and Ghana vs. Niger group matches. Additionally, he took charge as the central referee in the Ivory Coast vs. Tunisia match. Notably, Seechurn officiated as the central referee in the quarter-final clash between Ghana and Cape Verde.
His journey reached its pinnacle as he was selected as the fourth official for the CAN 2013 final. Seechurn considered being part of the final, even in the role of the fourth official, as the “icing on the cake” in his career, emphasizing that such moments are remembered as rewards for hard work.
Acknowledging the tough competition and immense pressure on the refereeing body, Seechurn highlighted the significance of matches like Ivory Coast vs. Tunisia, which had high stakes as a decisive match for qualification to the quarter-finals.
