CAF (Confederation of African Football) has issued a preliminary decision regarding the Senegal-Côte d’Ivoire match, which is part of the return leg of the final round of the CAN 2013 qualifiers. The African football governing body has officially confirmed the qualification of Cote d’Ivoire for the next Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). This decision is made in light of CAF considering Senegal to have lost the match. However, additional sanctions related to the match are pending and will be determined by the disciplinary committee.
Recall that the Senegal-Côte d’Ivoire match was halted due to the unruly behavior of Senegalese supporters, who threw stones, bottles, and firecrackers onto the pitch after the Elephants scored two goals. The referee was compelled to terminate the match, and law enforcement used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
While CAF has addressed the issue of qualification in favor of Cote d’Ivoire, further actions and sanctions are anticipated as the disciplinary committee continues its assessment of the incident and the conduct of the match.
