Cameroon winger Patrick Soko has been forced to pull out of Marc Brys’ squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers after sustaining a muscle injury while training with his club, Huesca.
Injury Forces Soko Out of International Duty
As Cameroon prepares for crucial fixtures against Eswatini and Libya, Soko’s absence comes as an early setback for new head coach Marc Brys, who is set to announce his squad soon.
The 27-year-old, who has earned two caps for the Indomitable Lions, picked up the injury last Thursday during a training session with Huesca, the Spanish second-division club confirmed in an official statement.
“Patrick Soko finished last Thursday’s training session with discomfort in his right thigh. After performing the necessary tests, a muscle injury was found in the long adductor muscle of his right leg,” the club announced.
Recovery Timeline Uncertain
Huesca has not specified how long Soko will be sidelined, but early indications suggest he is unlikely to recover in time for Cameroon’s international matches later this month.
The club added that the player has already begun rehabilitation under the guidance of their medical staff, with his return to action dependent on the progress of his recovery.
Soko, who previously played for Racing Santander and Atlas, has been in strong form this season, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 28 matches for Huesca.
His injury could prove costly, not only for his club but also for his standing within the national team, as he looks to establish himself under Brys.
Cameroon will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign later this month, hoping to secure vital points as they push for a place at the 2026 tournament.
