Georges-Kévin Nkoudou is in contention to return for Damac’s crucial Saudi Pro League fixture against Al-Qadsiah after missing the last four matches due to injury.
The Cameroonian international’s absence has been keenly felt, with the club failing to register a single point during that period.
Damac’s Struggles Without Nkoudou
Nkoudou, who has 13 international caps and two goals for Cameroon, sustained a posterior muscle tear on February 13 in a match against Al-Okhdood.
His absence has coincided with a downturn in Damac’s form, as the team suffered consecutive defeats against Al-Ahli (0-2), Al-Orobah (1-2), Al-Shabab (2-1), and Al-Taawoun (3-0).
Head coach Nuno Almeida has struggled to find an effective attacking solution in the winger’s absence, underlining Nkoudou’s importance to the squad.
On Wednesday, the 30-year-old returned to full training, completing an entire session with his teammates.
While he has received medical clearance to play, his involvement in Friday’s match at home against Al-Qadsiah will ultimately be decided by the coaching staff.
Key Player for Damac
Nkoudou has been a standout performer for Damac since joining from Turkish giants Besiktas in July 2023.
In just over a season and a half, he has contributed to 35 goals across all competitions, scoring 26 and assisting nine. This season, he has already netted 11 times, making him the club’s leading scorer.
His return would provide a significant boost for Damac, who are currently in 13th place in the Saudi Pro League with 24 points.
The team is looking to bounce back from their poor run of form and avoid being dragged into the relegation battle as the season enters its final stretch.
Farouk Chafaï Ruled Out
While Nkoudou’s potential return is positive news, Damac will have to cope without Algerian defender Farouk Chafaï.
The centre-back sustained a muscle injury in the recent defeat to Al-Shabab and was unable to train with the squad. He is expected to be sidelined until Matchday 26, following the upcoming international break.
As Damac prepares for a crucial match against Al-Qadsiah, all eyes will be on whether Nkoudou is deemed fit to start.
His presence could be the key to reviving the team’s fortunes as they seek to turn their season around.
