Cameroonian winger Bryan Mbeumo admits difficult start at Manchester United
Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo has conceded that his start to life at Manchester United has not unfolded as he had hoped.
The summer signing from Brentford, who was recruited to bolster United’s attacking options, has opened his account for the club but acknowledges that the team’s early season performances have fallen below expectations.
“It’s been tough,” Mbeumo told the club’s media channels. “I was expecting a lot from here because it’s a big club. It’s a big everything. I’m really happy with what happened to me here, the teammates, the staff, everyone in Carrington are lovely people.”
Mbeumo arrived at Old Trafford with a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most dynamic wide players, having been central to Brentford’s rise under Thomas Frank.
The 25-year-old admitted he is naturally reserved in new surroundings, preferring to ease into dressing-room dynamics rather than make an instant impression.
“You really want to come in and work here every day, which is really good. When I first arrive somewhere, I don’t really know, I don’t like to be loud or show myself a lot,” he explained.
Mbeumo also spoke positively about working under Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, drawing comparisons with his former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, now at Tottenham Hotspur.
“I think I’ve found some similarities because he always tries to do it in a fun way, and I think this is really important because it makes your life more enjoyable,” he added.
United will hope Mbeumo’s blend of Premier League experience and international pedigree can help ignite their season after a challenging start under Amorim.
