Cameroonian midfielder Zambo Anguissa rejects Napoli’s contract offer

Cameroonian midfielder Zambo Anguissa rejects Napoli’s contract offer

Napoli and Cameroonian international André-Frank Zambo Anguissa remain at an impasse over a contract extension, with the midfielder reportedly rejecting the club’s latest offer.

The breakdown in negotiations has prompted Napoli to exercise an automatic renewal clause to extend his stay until 2027.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli sought to secure Anguissa’s long-term future by offering a new deal running until 2029 or 2030.

However, discussions stalled due to a disagreement over salary, with the 28-year-old expecting a more substantial increase than what the club proposed.

Napoli Triggers Automatic Extension

In response to the contract deadlock, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has activated a clause to unilaterally extend Anguissa’s contract until 2027.

This move ensures the midfielder remains under contract in the short term, preventing him from leaving on a free transfer while allowing for further negotiations.

Despite the extension, Anguissa’s future at the club remains uncertain. While Napoli has secured his services for now, the Serie A side is reportedly open to selling him should a suitable offer emerge during the summer transfer window.

This uncertainty leaves the Cameroonian with a crucial decision: remain at Napoli on terms that do not meet his salary expectations or seek an exit in pursuit of a more lucrative contract elsewhere.

Potential Transfer on the Horizon?

With the summer transfer window approaching, Anguissa’s situation could attract interest from clubs seeking a powerful defensive midfielder.

Napoli’s decision to trigger the extension does not necessarily rule out a departure, as the club may still entertain offers that align with its valuation of the player.

For Anguissa, the coming months will be pivotal in determining his next steps. If he opts to stay, Napoli may gradually revise his salary to reflect his contributions to the team.

However, should a major European club present an enticing offer, the Cameroonian could find himself departing Italy in search of a new challenge.

Napoli Eyes Giorgi Sudakov as a Midfield Option

As Napoli navigates the Anguissa situation, the club continues to monitor the availability of Ukrainian midfielder Giorgi Sudakov.

The Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker has been on Napoli’s radar for some time, but restrictions on non-EU players prevented a potential transfer in January.

With those restrictions set to be lifted in the summer of 2025, Sudakov could finally make his way to Serie A.

His potential arrival may influence Napoli’s midfield strategy, possibly affecting Anguissa’s standing within the squad.

Should Napoli secure Sudakov’s signature, it could alter the club’s approach to Anguissa’s contract and future at the club.

As things stand, the coming months will determine whether Anguissa continues his journey with Napoli or explores opportunities elsewhere.

With contract disputes, transfer speculation, and Napoli’s squad restructuring in play, the midfielder’s next move remains uncertain.
