Napoli coach Antonio Conte believes André-Frank Zambo Anguissa can reach an even higher level after his match-winning performance against Lecce on Tuesday night.
The Cameroonian midfielder scored the decisive goal as Napoli secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory, responding strongly to their weekend defeat to Inter Milan.
Conte praised Anguissa’s energy and leadership but challenged him to become more clinical in front of goal.
“I’m very happy for Franck. If he’s always on fire, there are few players like him, but he can still improve his finishing,” the Italian manager said. “We have to find the goals; the more they come from, the better.”
Anguissa’s strike came in the 69th minute after a tense contest. Lecce had earlier missed a chance to take the lead when Francesco Camarda’s penalty was saved by Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić following a VAR review.
Napoli took advantage of that reprieve. From a well-delivered free kick, Anguissa rose above the Lecce defense to head home powerfully, sending the travelling supporters into celebration.
The goal was his fourth of the Serie A season, adding to one assist in eight appearances so far. His consistent displays have made him one of Napoli’s standout performers this term.
Conte, however, insists there is still more to come from the 29-year-old.
