Cameroonian midfielder Tsiy Ndenge joins Lion City sailors in surprise move to Singapore

Cameroonian midfielder Tsiy Ndenge joins Lion City sailors in surprise move to Singapore

Cameroon international Tsiy William Ndenge has signed a two-year contract with Singapore Premier League side Lion City Sailors, in one of the most unexpected transfers of the summer window.

The 28-year-old midfielder, who previously played for clubs in Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, has opted for a move to Southeast Asia despite reported interest from multiple European teams.

His most recent spell was with Grasshoppers in the Swiss Super League, following earlier stints at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Roda JC.

Speaking to 237foot shortly after arriving in Singapore, Ndenge expressed his enthusiasm for the new chapter in his career and the ambitions laid out by his new club.

“I’m excited to be here,” he said. “This is a club with a clear project and big ambitions, and I want to be part of writing its history. I had offers in Europe, but what drew me here was the direction and vision the club has. It was a conscious decision.”

Sources close to the deal suggest that financial incentives played a significant role in the midfielder’s decision. Ndenge is reportedly earning a seven-figure annual salary, making him one of the highest-paid players in Singapore.

The contract offer significantly outstripped the terms presented by European clubs, ultimately influencing the player’s move to the Lion City.

While the financial package has raised eyebrows across the footballing world, Ndenge’s decision also reflects the growing appeal of emerging leagues outside the traditional European strongholds.

Lion City Sailors, who have made a name for themselves with ambitious signings and a focus on professional development, continue to attract experienced international players to bolster their squad.

Ndenge brings with him a wealth of experience from top European leagues and a reputation as a physically imposing midfielder with strong technical ability.

At 1.88 metres, his presence in the centre of the pitch is expected to add a new dynamic to the Sailors’ lineup, which already features several players with European pedigree.

The move also marks a significant shift in the trajectory of the former Germany youth international’s career. Born in Germany to Cameroonian parents, Ndenge featured for Germany at youth levels before switching allegiance to Cameroon. His move to Singapore represents both a personal and professional change of pace, as he takes on a leadership role in a league less familiar to global audiences but increasingly ambitious in scope.

Lion City Sailors, one of the most prominent clubs in Singapore, are positioning themselves as serious contenders both domestically and in regional competitions.

The addition of Ndenge is seen as part of a broader effort to elevate the team’s quality and profile, blending local talent with experienced international players.

As Tsiy Ndenge settles into his new environment, all eyes will be on how he adapts to the Singapore Premier League and whether his arrival can help propel the Sailors to new heights.

One thing is clear: the club has made a bold statement in securing his services, and the midfielder now has the opportunity to make a lasting impact far from Europe’s traditional football centres.
