Cameroonian midfielder Martin Hongla linked with Royal Antwerp return
Martin Hongla could be set for a return to Royal Antwerp this summer, with the Belgian club reportedly interested in signing the Cameroonian midfielder from Granada.
The 27-year-old, who previously played for Antwerp between 2019 and 2022, may look to move back to Belgium as he seeks top-flight football.
Currently a regular starter for Granada, Hongla has been one of the team’s most consistent performers.
However, with the Spanish club competing in the second tier and promotion looking increasingly unlikely, the midfielder may consider an exit to continue playing at the highest level.
Despite being under contract until June 2027, a summer transfer could be on the horizon.
A Familiar Destination
Royal Antwerp appears to be a viable option for Hongla, given his past experience at the club. During his previous stint, he made 58 appearances and played a key role in their midfield.
His return would provide a boost to the Belgian side, which remains competitive in domestic and European competitions.
At present, Antwerp has not made an official move for Hongla, but interest in the Cameroonian international is reportedly growing.
With a market value estimated at €2 million, he could be a feasible signing for the club as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
Strong Performances Despite Granada’s Struggles
Despite playing in Spain’s second division, Hongla has maintained a high level of performance.
He has made 25 appearances across all competitions this season, including 21 starts, scoring two goals and registering one assist.
His reliability in midfield has also ensured he remains a regular for the Cameroon national team.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Hongla’s future will likely become clearer. If Granada fails to secure promotion, a move away could be the best option for both the player and the club.
Whether Antwerp makes a concrete offer remains to be seen, but a return to Belgium could be an attractive prospect for the Cameroonian international.
