Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba focused on Brighton future amid transfer speculation

Carlos Baleba has insisted he remains fully committed to Brighton & Hove Albion as speculation around his future continues to grow ahead of the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old Cameroonian midfielder has been linked with several top European clubs, with Manchester United reportedly among those tracking his development.

Despite the attention, Baleba has moved to reassure Brighton bosses that his focus remains on the club’s objectives this season.

According to The Sun, Baleba recently spoke privately with head coach Fabian Hürzeler to underline his dedication.

The midfielder is understood to have clarified that his recent dip in form stems from a knee injury that disrupted his pre-season rather than distractions caused by outside interest.

He has featured in 10 matches in all competitions so far, though his performances have fluctuated.

Brighton regard him as an essential figure for both the present and the future.

Baleba is tied to the club until June 2028, with the option for an extra year, and the Seagulls have placed a high valuation on the player.

While Transfermarkt currently lists him at €60m, reports suggest Brighton would only consider offers exceeding €100m.

Former Cameroon internationals have not shied away from sharing their views on his progression.

Patrick Tchoutang recently claimed Liverpool is the club that would best suit Carlos Baleba, while Jean II Makoun has expressed support for the possibility of a Manchester United move later in his career.

Despite such public endorsements, there is no indication Baleba is seeking a transfer.

The midfielder, who earns just over €750,000 annually, has quickly become one of the most closely watched young talents in the Premier League.

Signed from Lille in 2023, his powerful presence, defensive intelligence and comfort in possession have positioned him as a long-term replacement in Brighton’s midfield structure.

Attention will now turn to the upcoming league fixture where Brighton face Manchester United — the same club reportedly exploring a future bid.

The contest adds another layer of intrigue to the transfer narrative surrounding Baleba, though the player has made clear his intentions.

For now, Brighton remain firmly in control of the situation as they continue planning with Baleba at the heart of their project.
