Cameroonian government affirms Marc Brys appointment amidst dispute with Samuel Eto’o

The controversy surrounding the appointment of Marc Brys as the new head coach of the Cameroon national football team has taken a new turn as the Cameroonian government has intervened to confirm his position. This development comes in the wake of criticism from the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) and its representative Samuel Eto’o.

Marc Brys was selected to succeed Rigobert Song following Cameroon’s disappointing performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). However, his appointment sparked controversy, with Samuel Eto’o expressing dissatisfaction over what he perceived as unilateral decision-making by the Ministry of Sports.

In response to the criticism, the Cameroonian government, through the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, issued a statement affirming Marc Brys’s appointment.

Narcisse Mouele Kombi, the Minister of Sports, clarified that all necessary measures had been taken for Brys to assume his role as coach-selector, along with other members of the technical management team.

The government’s decision was supported by Article 9 of the Minsep-Fecafoot Convention, which outlines the procedures for the recruitment of management personnel for national football teams.

According to the convention, such appointments are made either through a contract signed with the president of Fecafoot, following mandatory consultation with the Minister responsible for Sports, or through designation by the State.

The confirmation of Marc Brys’s appointment by the Cameroonian government signals a resolution to the dispute surrounding his selection.

It underscores the government’s commitment to upholding the established procedures for the recruitment of coaching staff for the national football team, ensuring transparency and adherence to regulatory frameworks.

As Marc Brys assumes his new role, all eyes will be on him to lead Cameroon’s football team to success, overcoming challenges both on and off the field.

His appointment marks a new chapter in the team’s journey, with hopes of revitalizing its performance and reclaiming its position as a powerhouse in African football.
