Cameroon and Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has arrived in Burkina Faso to take part in a series of charity events organised by the Bertrand Traoré Foundation.

The 28-year-old was welcomed at Ouagadougou International Airport by his former Ajax teammate and Burkinabe international Bertrand Traoré, alongside members of the host’s entourage.

Onana’s presence marks a notable addition to the fourth edition of the “Charity Days” initiative launched by Traoré, captain of the Burkina Faso national team.

This year’s event, which runs for several days across multiple cities, brings together African footballers for a cause greater than the game. Organised under the banner of the Captain of the Stallions Foundation, the initiative aims to support vulnerable communities through a combination of philanthropic donations and public engagement activities.

The programme begins in the Burkinabe capital, Ouagadougou, where donations will be distributed on 12 June. It will then move to Bobo-Dioulasso, the country’s second-largest city, from 14 to 16 June.

During these days, the foundation will carry out further humanitarian actions targeting underprivileged groups, schools, and health facilities.

Speaking ahead of the events, organisers expressed their gratitude for the strong support shown by current and former professional footballers across the continent.

The week will conclude with a high-profile gala match featuring a lineup of African football stars, including Togo’s Emmanuel Adebayor, Ivory Coast’s Serge Aurier, and Malian international Omar Diakité, among others.

Onana’s participation reflects not only his continued connection to his African roots but also his commitment to giving back to the wider community. The Cameroonian, who has faced both triumph and criticism throughout his career, remains an influential figure both on and off the pitch.

His arrival has drawn considerable attention from fans in Burkina Faso, where excitement has been building around the charitable spectacle.

The gala match is expected to attract large crowds, offering fans the rare opportunity to see some of Africa’s most celebrated footballers playing together on Burkinabe soil. The event is not only a celebration of sport but also a platform for raising awareness and mobilising resources for social good.

For Bertrand Traoré, this initiative continues his growing reputation as a leader both in football and humanitarian circles. With support from teammates past and present, including the likes of Onana, he has succeeded in transforming his personal platform into an engine for lasting impact.

The Bertrand Traoré Foundation has become a central player in promoting youth development, access to education, and health services in Burkina Faso. Each edition of the Charity Days initiative builds on that legacy, drawing on the unifying power of sport to inspire hope and generosity.

As André Onana settles into his week in Burkina Faso, his participation adds weight and visibility to a cause that continues to grow in both scale and ambition.

His presence not only honours a former teammate but also reinforces the spirit of solidarity that defines African football’s broader commitment to community upliftment.
