Cameroonian defender Ali Goni signs two-year deal with TP Mazembe

TP Mazembe have officially secured the signing of Cameroonian defender Ali Goni, marking another strategic addition to the Congolese giants’ defensive line.

The 24-year-old joins from Coton Sport de Garoua, bringing with him valuable domestic and international experience.

Goni’s arrival in Lubumbashi represents a significant step forward in his promising career.

Trained at Coton Sport’s renowned academy, the centre-back quickly established himself as one of the most consistent performers in the Cameroonian top flight.

During his time with the Garoua-based club, he helped them to two national championship titles, before a spell with Krimi FC further honed his defensive qualities and leadership at the back.

The young defender’s performances did not go unnoticed at the international level.

Goni represented Cameroon’s U20 and U23 national teams, gaining valuable exposure in continental competitions, including the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations U20 tournament.

Those experiences offered him a taste of elite African football, where he developed the tactical discipline and physical edge that now make him a sought-after prospect.

TP Mazembe confirmed the signing on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, announcing that Goni has agreed to a two-year contract with an option for a further season.

The club, a powerhouse in African football with multiple CAF Champions League titles to its name, sees the Cameroonian as an ideal fit to reinforce its defense as it prepares for both domestic and continental challenges.

Speaking during his official unveiling, Goni expressed both pride and determination at joining one of the continent’s most decorated clubs.
Joining a club like TPM is an honour and a great responsibility. I come to give the best of myself and help the team achieve its goals. Here, the demands are known, and I am ready to take on the challenge, he told the club’s media team.

His words underscore not only his ambition but also his awareness of the high expectations that come with wearing the black-and-white shirt of the Ravens.

Known for developing and nurturing young African talents, Mazembe’s decision to bring in Goni aligns with its long-term strategy of building a balanced squad blending experience with youthful energy.

For both player and club, the move signals a new chapter filled with opportunity.

As TP Mazembe continue their quest to reclaim continental dominance, Ali Goni’s arrival could provide the defensive assurance and leadership required to achieve those ambitions.
