Bryan Mbeumo struggling for goals at Manchester United

Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo is experiencing a rare and concerning dip in form after going eight consecutive Premier League matches without scoring or registering an assist for Manchester United.

Despite the club’s broader resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick, Mbeumo’s influence in the final third has significantly waned at a crucial stage of the season, raising questions about his sharpness and attacking rhythm.

The 25-year-old had been an important attacking outlet earlier in the campaign, combining movement, creativity, and finishing ability to good effect. However, his recent output tells a different story.

Mbeumo’s last goal came on 7 February, when he found the net in Manchester United’s 2–0 win over Tottenham Hotspur — a match that at the time highlighted his importance in breaking down disciplined defensive structures.

Following that, he briefly maintained some creative influence, registering two assists in quick succession: one against West Ham United on 10 February and another versus Everton on 23 February. But since then, his attacking contributions have completely dried up.

Eight Premier League appearances have passed without a goal involvement, marking his longest such streak of the season and one of the most noticeable downturns in form within the squad.

The lack of productivity is particularly striking given Mbeumo’s reputation as a forward capable of consistently influencing matches through both goals and assists. Known for his intelligent positioning, sharp finishing, and link-up play, he has instead appeared increasingly isolated in recent games.

Opposing defences have also begun to pay him closer attention, limiting his space in advanced areas and forcing him into deeper or wider positions where his impact is reduced.

While Manchester United have continued to collect points and secure a strong position in the race for Champions League qualification, the attacking burden has shifted elsewhere in the squad, further highlighting Mbeumo’s current struggles.

Despite his recent drought, Mbeumo’s overall Premier League record this season remains respectable. He has recorded nine goals and three assists, numbers that underline his importance in the team’s broader attacking structure.

Yet football is often defined by momentum, and his current spell stands in contrast to the explosive form he showed earlier in the campaign.

Since Michael Carrick’s arrival, Manchester United have shown improved structure, defensive stability, and more controlled build-up play. The team’s upward trajectory has been clear, but the redistribution of attacking responsibility appears to have affected Mbeumo’s involvement in decisive moments.

With United pushing toward a Champions League return, Carrick may soon face the task of reintegrating Mbeumo more effectively into the final-third system, ensuring the forward can rediscover the sharpness that made him a key attacking figure earlier in the season.

For Mbeumo, the focus will now be on breaking the drought and restoring confidence before the campaign reaches its decisive stage. A single goal or assist could be enough to reset his rhythm, but the longer the wait continues, the greater the scrutiny will become.

Manchester United will be hoping their Cameroonian forward rediscovers his edge quickly — because while the team is winning, sustained success in the final stretch often depends on rediscovering firepower in the attacking line.
