The Cameroonian Ministry of Sports has come under fire following allegations of administrative failures that reportedly disrupted the national football team’s travel arrangements.

Sports analyst Willy Alaga has shed light on the situation, revealing details that have sparked widespread concern.

Speaking on CRTV Sports’ program Les Débrifeurs, Alaga criticized the handling of passports for the Indomitable Lions ahead of their journey to South Africa.

He pointed to an irregular intervention by a ministry official, which he claimed was a significant factor in the logistical setbacks.

“Why were there passport problems? Because someone from the Ministry of Sports collected the passports when it was not their duty, for unknown reasons, while the coordinator was waiting for these passports to begin the administrative procedures […] I really feel bad when I talk about this story,” Alaga stated.

His remarks suggest that an administrative misstep within the ministry may have caused delays in processing essential travel documents.

This revelation has fueled public debate over the transparency and efficiency of Cameroon’s sports administration.

Concerns over mismanagement

The controversy has raised broader concerns about governance within Cameroon’s sports sector.

If Alaga’s claims are accurate, the interference by ministry officials in operational matters would highlight deep-seated inefficiencies and a disregard for established protocols.

Such disruptions not only affect team logistics but also risk compromising the performance of athletes representing the nation on the international stage.

Beyond the immediate implications for the Indomitable Lions, the incident has reignited calls for structural reforms to improve accountability in sports management.

Many are questioning whether this situation is an isolated case or indicative of systemic issues within the ministry.

Demand for accountability

As public pressure mounts, there are growing calls for an official investigation into the matter.

Transparency advocates and sports analysts are urging authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the passport delay and take corrective action to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

With the credibility of Cameroon’s sports administration at stake, all eyes are now on the Ministry of Sports to provide clear answers.

The outcome of this controversy could have lasting implications for governance and operational integrity within the country’s sporting institutions.

For the Indomitable Lions and their supporters, the hope remains that such administrative hurdles will not stand in the way of their international aspirations.
