Marc Brys looks set to leave his role as Cameroon’s head coach after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with Patrice Carteron expected to take over the Indomitable Lions.
Local reports indicate that Brys plans to travel to Saudi Arabia in January, a move that signals the end of his tenure.
The Belgian coach took charge in April 2024 and guided Cameroon through more than fifteen matches.
His run includes only one defeat, a record that strengthened the team’s confidence despite persistent tension between Brys and the Cameroonian Football Federation.
He also secured qualification for the 2025 AFCON during a turbulent period behind the scenes.
Early information points to Patrice Carteron as the leading candidate for the position. Carteron brings significant experience in African football and has built a strong résumé on the continent.
He guided Mali to a bronze medal at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and earned multiple major honours with TP Mazembe.
The Congolese club captured the CAF Champions League under his leadership in 2015 and later lifted the CAF Super Cup in both 2019 and 2020.
Carteron also coached several top clubs, including Raja Casablanca and Zamalek SC, and currently manages Umm Salal SC in Qatar.
His background positions him as a familiar and accomplished figure within African football.
The Cameroonian Football Federation has yet to release an official statement on the situation.
For now, uncertainty surrounds the future of the technical bench, but expectations continue to grow as the national team prepares for the continental tournament.
