Cameroon midfielder Frank Anguissa faces lengthy spell out after thigh injury blow

Cameroon midfielder Frank Anguissa has been ruled out for several weeks after suffering a serious thigh injury during the Indomitable Lions’ training camp in Morocco, dealing a major setback to both his club Napoli and his national team.

The 28-year-old arrived in Rabat on Monday to join Cameroon’s squad at the Amphitrite Palace Hotel ahead of their November training camp.

However, his preparations were cut short when he picked up the injury during Tuesday’s session.

Following the incident, Anguissa returned to Italy for further medical evaluation at the Pineta Grande Hospital in Naples.

Tests confirmed a severe tear of the biceps femoris muscle in his left thigh. According to reports from Goal Italia, the midfielder is expected to be out of action for two to three months.

The timing of the injury is particularly concerning for Cameroon, with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations set to kick off in December in Morocco.

Anguissa’s recovery schedule now casts serious doubt over his availability for the continental tournament, where he was expected to play a central role in Rigobert Song’s squad.

For Napoli, the news comes as an equally heavy blow.

Anguissa has been one of the team’s most consistent performers since joining from Fulham in 2021, known for his strength, ball recovery, and composure in midfield.

His absence leaves a significant void in the centre of the pitch for coach Walter Mazzarri, who must now find a suitable replacement ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

The Cameroonian’s injury rules him out of Napoli’s upcoming Serie A clash with Atalanta on November 22, as well as several key matches in the coming weeks.

Napoli, currently trying to regain form after an inconsistent start to the season, will have to manage without one of their most dependable midfielders during a critical phase of their campaign.

Anguissa’s injury also adds to a growing list of fitness concerns for the Italian champions, who have struggled to maintain consistency amid mounting player absences.

While both Napoli and Cameroon medical teams monitor his progress closely, the focus will now be on ensuring a full recovery rather than a rushed return, with the risk of aggravating the injury deemed too high.

For now, both club and country face an anxious wait — Napoli hoping to stabilise their season without him, and Cameroon praying for a swift recovery in time for the Africa Cup of Nations.
