Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has signalled he remains content with life at the Amex despite Manchester United ending their pursuit of the Cameroon international following a prohibitive valuation.
United had identified the 21-year-old as their primary midfield target in this transfer window, but talks stalled after Brighton placed a £120 million price tag on his services.
The Old Trafford club subsequently shifted attention to alternative options, leaving Baleba’s future firmly tied to the south coast for now.
The midfielder has not shown any sign of discontent amid the speculation, and after Brighton’s 1-1 draw against Fulham on Saturday, he took to social media to underline his commitment and enjoyment of playing.
“Just me doing the thing I love most,” Baleba posted. “Had fun playing at home with the boys. Nothing new here, just my number and a haircut.”
Baleba’s message will come as reassurance to Brighton supporters, particularly with the midfielder attracting such high-profile interest after a strong debut season in the Premier League.
Manager Fabian Hürzeler has leaned on him heavily in midfield, appreciating his blend of physicality, composure, and vision in possession.
For United, the collapsed pursuit marks another setback in a summer where financial constraints have shaped their recruitment.
With Brighton unwilling to negotiate below their valuation, United’s hierarchy deemed the deal unworkable. Attention will now turn to other targets as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his options in the middle of the park.
Brighton, meanwhile, will take encouragement from Baleba’s apparent satisfaction at remaining with the club.
Under Hürzeler’s watch, the Seagulls aim to push for another top-half finish in the league while progressing in cup competitions, and keeping Baleba could prove crucial in achieving those ambitions.
