Cameroon uses friendlies to assess local league talent

Cameroon’s Lions A’ national football team will face a real test this Tuesday with two friendly matches designed to conclude their current training camp and evaluate squad performance.

Under the guidance of coach David Pagou, the team has spent several days in intensive training, focusing on tactical refinement, team cohesion, and fitness.

The camp has provided the coaching staff with the opportunity to observe players from the local league in competitive situations and assess their readiness for upcoming competitions.

To finish the camp, the Lions A’ will first face AS Fortuna, followed by a match against Canon Yaoundé.

These games will allow the coaching staff to test different tactical approaches and monitor how well players implement instructions under match conditions.

While the results of the friendlies are secondary, the main focus is on individual and collective performance.

The coaching staff will assess players’ physical condition, adaptability to team strategies, and their ability to integrate into the playing style promoted by Pagou and his technical team.

“These matches represent a critical step in building the national team and integrating the best local talents into the first team,” a team statement noted.

Observers expect the two fixtures to provide insights into potential first-team selections and areas requiring further work.

For the Cameroonian squad, these friendlies are more than just matches—they are an essential evaluation tool as the team prepares for future continental and international competitions.

By the end of Tuesday, the coaching staff aims to have a clearer picture of the squad’s strengths, weaknesses, and readiness for competitive play.
