Cameroon gaffer Cyprian Besong Ashu returns as interim coach of South Sudan after Nicolas Dupuis exit
South Sudna has appointed Cameroonian tactician Cyprian Besong Ashu as interim head coach following the dismissal of Nicolas Dupuis.
Ashu, 56, previously led the Bright Stars from 2019 to 2021, making this a familiar return for the South Sudanese squad. This time, however, he has been entrusted with a temporary role as the country looks to stabilize its technical staff and rebuild momentum after a period of transition.
The Cameroonian coach brings a wealth of experience, having also served as an assistant coach to Cameroon national football team—the Indomitable Lions—under Belgian tactician Marc Brys. His knowledge of African football and prior work with South Sudan make him a natural choice to guide the team during this interim phase.
The decision to reappoint Ashu comes after the federation decided to part ways with Dupuis, who had been in charge of South Sudan’s national team. The move signals a desire for continuity and stability while the search for a long-term head coach continues.
Ashu is expected to immediately take charge of the technical preparations for upcoming fixtures, drawing on his familiarity with the squad and his previous experience navigating the challenges of South Sudanese football. Federation officials have expressed confidence that his leadership will provide a steadying influence and help the Bright Stars regain form and focus.
The Cameroonian tactician will now begin work with the players, aiming to instill discipline, tactical organization, and a competitive mindset as South Sudan seeks to improve its performance on the international stage.
Ashu’s return marks a critical moment for the Bright Stars, as fans and officials alike hope his experience and knowledge of the team will bring stability and set the foundation for future success in African competitions.
