Cameroon football mourns the loss of Landry Nguemo

The Cameroonian football community is in mourning following the tragic death of former international Landry Nguemo. Nguemo, who was a pivotal figure in Cameroonian football, died in a traffic accident on Thursday, June 27, 2024. His untimely passing has left a void, particularly among those who knew him well, including former Indomitable Lions striker Patrick Mboma.

Patrick Mboma, who was close to Nguemo, expressed his sorrow publicly. In a heartfelt post on his X account, Mboma conveyed his deep regret over Nguemo’s sudden death.

“I didn’t have time to tell you, but I was just thinking about you today, Landry.

I already miss you a lot, little brother,” Mboma wrote, reflecting the pain and loss felt by many in the Cameroonian football fraternity.

Born on November 28, 1985, in Yaoundé, Landry Nguemo carved out an impressive career as a midfielder.

He became a legend at French club AS Nancy, where he played 148 matches.

His talent and dedication on the field also saw him don the jerseys of Celtic Glasgow and AS Saint-Étienne before he retired in 2020.

Nguemo’s influence extended beyond his playing days. After hanging up his boots, he transitioned into coaching, joining Nancy in 2021 to coach the U16 team.

His coaching career progressed rapidly, and he was appointed head coach of the club’s reserves midway through the 2022-2023 season.

Landry Nguemo earned 42 caps for the Cameroon national team, representing his country with distinction.
