Cameroon embassy asks Morocco FA to resolve Women’s Africa Cup of Nations ticket issue

The Cameroon embassy in Morocco has appealed to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to help secure tickets for supporters ahead of Wednesday’s highly anticipated Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Cameroon and Morocco.

Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 GMT, but growing difficulties in obtaining tickets have raised concerns among the Cameroonian community in Morocco.

Cameroon’s ambassador to Morocco, Mohamadou Houssifou, has contacted the president of the FRMF directly in an effort to resolve what the embassy describes as a blockage affecting access to tickets for the match.

The diplomatic intervention is intended to ensure that supporters of Cameroon’s women’s national team, known as the Indomitable Lionesses, are able to attend the last-four tie against the host nation.

In his official communication, Houssifou outlined the number and categories of tickets required by the embassy.

“The needs of Cameroonian supporters amount to around one thousand (1,000) tickets, consisting of 50 category-one tickets and 950 category-three tickets, which will be paid for by the Embassy of Cameroon in Morocco. Unlike the other matches, for which we were able to purchase tickets without difficulty, we have encountered blockages since this morning in buying tickets for the aforementioned match between Cameroon’s women’s national team and that of the Kingdom of Morocco.”

The embassy said the request was being made to guarantee the presence of Cameroon supporters at a major continental fixture involving the host country.

The difficulties have emerged despite the embassy being able to buy tickets for previous matches without experiencing similar problems. According to Houssifou’s message, the issue began on the morning of the semi-final, when efforts to purchase the requested allocation became increasingly difficult.

The appeal also highlights the wider challenges involved in managing supporter access during major African football tournaments. With Cameroon facing Morocco in a highly anticipated semi-final, the availability of tickets has become an immediate concern for the Cameroonian community in the country.

The embassy is now awaiting a favourable response from the FRMF. Its stated objective is to make sure the Indomitable Lionesses do not face the host nation without the backing of their supporters in the stands.

The request covers 1,000 tickets in total: 50 in category one and 950 in category three. The embassy has confirmed that it will pay for the full allocation, but says it has so far been unable to complete the purchase because of the reported difficulties.

The matter places the focus on how ticket distribution and supporter movements are handled around important continental matches. For Cameroon, the priority is to find a solution before the semi-final begins on Wednesday evening.
