Cameroon defender Samuel Kotto completes permanent move to Stade Reims after impressive loan spell
Cameroonian defender Samuel Kotto has sealed a permanent transfer to Stade de Reims following an impressive spell that convinced the French club’s hierarchy to trigger their option to buy.
Kotto initially joined Reims from Belgian side K.A.A. Gent during the winter transfer window and quickly established himself as a reliable presence in defence, earning praise for his composure, physical strength, and consistency.
His performances did not go unnoticed, with Reims’ management moving swiftly to secure his long-term future at the club. The Cameroonian international has now signed a contract that will keep him in France until 2030.
The decision underlines the confidence Reims have in the 22-year-old defender, who is seen as a key part of the club’s long-term project in Ligue 1.
Shortly after putting pen to paper on his new deal, Kotto expressed his excitement and gratitude towards the club for believing in his abilities.
“I am really happy to continue the adventure here. I would like to sincerely thank the club, the President and the staff for the trust they have placed in me,” he said.
“I will do everything I can to justify that trust, match after match, in this shirt.”
Since arriving in France, Kotto has shown steady development, adapting quickly to the intensity and tactical demands of Ligue 1 football. His performances have helped strengthen Reims’ defensive stability and boosted his reputation as one of Cameroon’s promising young defenders in Europe.
The permanent signing is also a significant step in his career progression, marking his transition from a loan player to a long-term asset for the French side.
Reims’ decision to secure Kotto until 2030 reflects both his potential and the club’s ambition to build a competitive squad capable of challenging higher up the Ligue 1 table in the coming seasons.
For Kotto, the focus now turns to continuing his development and repaying the club’s faith with consistent performances at the highest level of French football.
