Cameroon coach Marc Brys’s defiant message after World Cup qualifiers exit
Cameroon’s hopes for the 2026 World Cup ended in heartbreak after a tough loss to Congo in the qualifiers, shaking a nation that expects to compete at the very highest level.
Head coach Marc Brys addressed the country, delivering a courageous and determined message to his players and all of Africa, promising this setback wouldn’t break the Indomitable Lions.
Brys remained strong, refusing to let disappointment result in panic. “These are professional players in top clubs. Everyone is disappointed, but they need to recover mentally. We have time. We will be ready for the Africa Cup of Nations,” he stated.
He made clear that missing out on the World Cup is no excuse for a weak CAN, insisting his squad will take time to process the pain but come back motivated: “I don’t think this justifies a bad CAN. We will take time to digest, but we will be motivated.”
Brys also acknowledged the attacking struggles, praising young striker Eyong’s energy but noting nerves in front of the goal. “He could have scored more, but I’m happy to have him.”
His words signal Cameroon’s determination to bounce back in the Africa Cup of Nations, warning the rest of the continent not to count them out.
