Cameroon coach Marc Brys selects three domestic League players ahead of June friendlies

Cameroon coach Marc Brys selects three domestic League players ahead of June friendlies

Cameroon’s national team coach Marc Brys has named three home-based players in his squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Uganda and Equatorial Guinea.

Serge Daura of Gazelle FA, Florent Batoum of Dynamo Douala, and Adrien Boris Mfoumou of AS Fortuna have each earned their first call-up to the senior national team.

All three play in the MTN Elite One, Cameroon’s top domestic league, and have now been given the chance to train and possibly feature in the Indomitable Lions’ June fixtures.

The decision by Brys, who took the helm of the national team in 2024, signals a renewed commitment to identifying and nurturing local talent.

His selection is being widely viewed as a deliberate move to broaden the team’s player base and offer greater exposure to individuals excelling in the domestic league, rather than relying solely on those based abroad.

In calling up Daura, Batoum, and Mfoumou, the Belgian coach is extending an opportunity to players who have shown consistency and promise in the domestic competition.

The trio will join the national side’s training camp, where they will prepare for two international friendlies scheduled to take place in June.

Serge Daura, a central figure in Gazelle FA’s midfield, has been instrumental in his club’s recent performances, combining physical presence with tactical intelligence.

His selection comes as recognition of his standout displays in the Elite One, where he has earned a reputation for breaking up opposition play and launching counter-attacks with precision.

Florent Batoum, a defender from Dynamo Douala, has also caught the eye with a string of strong performances in recent months.

Known for his aerial dominance and positional discipline, Batoum has become a vital cog in Dynamo’s defensive structure. His consistent form has not gone unnoticed by Brys, who sees potential for Batoum to adapt to the demands of international football.

Meanwhile, Adrien Boris Mfoumou, a forward from AS Fortuna, has impressed with his attacking instincts and goal-scoring ability. Agile and technically gifted, Mfoumou has been one of the most talked-about talents in the domestic league this season. His inclusion could offer the Indomitable Lions an injection of creativity and dynamism in the final third.

The three players will now have the opportunity to integrate with the more established members of the national team and prove themselves on a larger stage.

The training camp will serve as a crucial platform, not only for individual development but also for Brys to evaluate how well domestic talents can complement the squad’s existing structure.

Cameroon’s fixtures against Uganda and Equatorial Guinea, both scheduled during the upcoming FIFA international window, are expected to serve as preparatory matches ahead of more competitive engagements later in the year.

These games will provide Brys and his technical staff a valuable opportunity to test new tactical approaches and assess squad depth.

By turning his attention to the domestic league, Brys has sent a clear message: performances at home can earn national recognition. For Daura, Batoum, and Mfoumou, the call-up is a reward for their hard work and an invitation to rise to the challenge of international football.

Their inclusion has also generated excitement among fans and analysts alike, who see this as a hopeful sign that local football is regaining its place at the heart of Cameroon’s national team strategy.
