Cameroon coach Marc Brys facing sack on the eve of AFCON 2025
Head coach of the Cameroon national team, Marc Brys could be sack before the commencement of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, to be held in Morocco.
The Belgian tactician has come under intense pressure following the Indomitable Lions’ elimination from the 2026 World Cup playoffs race.
Cameroon had a golden opportunity to secure a lace at the global showpiece despite missing out on automatic qualification spot.
But their World Cup hopes finally dashed last week after succumbing to a narrow defeat to DR Congo in semifinal of the African playoff. Chancel Mbemba strike was enough to secure the Leopards a place in the final, eventually defeating Nigeria to secure a spot in the intercontinental playoff scheduled for March 2026.
Samuel Eto’o, who is the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation is reportedly considering replacing Marc Brys before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The former football icon has already tasked the national technical directorate to line up potential replacement for the Belgian gaffer before the AFCON tournament.
Meanwhile, Cameroon face a major stumbling block in their quest to part ways with Marc Brys following the suspension of Fécafoot’s elective General Assembly by the Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. The minister appears to disagree with Eto’o’s choices.
Additionally, Brys’ contract issues and unpaid salaries have been a longstanding problem, having previously threatened to terminate his contract in July 2025 due to these issues.
