Calvin Kabuye has completed a permanent move from Swedish side Mjällby AIF to Finnish champions Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS), sealing a switch that takes the left winger out of Sweden and into the Veikkausliiga. The transfer is recorded as a standard deal, with the fee undisclosed, and sees the 22-year-old Uganda/Sweden attacker join KuPS on a contract running from 2026-02-07 to 2028-12-31.

The move ends Kabuye’s latest spell with Mjällby, who had brought him in from Sandvikens IF before loaning him to Varbergs BoIS and then welcoming him back. His subsequent sale to KuPS marks his first club outside Sweden and places him in a league where he is expected to compete regularly in the Veikkausliiga and potentially in European qualifying rounds. According to the most recent valuation, Kabuye’s market value stands at €400k, underlining KuPS’s decision to invest in a young attacker entering his prime years.

Born in Huddinge and standing at 1.83 m, Kabuye has come through a distinctly Swedish development path while holding ties to both Uganda and Sweden. He progressed from AIK’s youth ranks, stepping up from AIK U17 to AIK U19 and then into the AIK first team. From there, his early senior career was marked by a series of loans designed to give him playing time and experience across Swedish divisions.

His first major loan saw him move from AIK to Vasalunds IF, and later he repeated that pattern with a temporary switch from AIK to Östersunds FK. Each stint ended with a return to his parent club at the conclusion of the loan, reinforcing his reputation as a developing winger trusted to handle regular minutes away from Stockholm. In February 2024 he moved permanently from AIK to Sandvikens IF, a step that helped him build further senior consistency before Mjällby secured his services in early 2025.

At Mjällby, Kabuye’s trajectory continued to rise. A loan to Varbergs BoIS in mid-2025 offered him more competitive action, after which he returned to Mjällby later that year. During that period his market value climbed in stages, from €100k at Östersunds FK in mid-2023 to €250k at AIK later that year, then to €350k at Sandvikens IF and Mjällby, before reaching €400k at Varbergs BoIS. Those incremental increases reflect a player viewed as a growing asset within Scandinavian football.

Now, with the switch to KuPS complete, Kabuye transitions from Sweden’s Allsvenskan environment to Finland’s Veikkausliiga. KuPS gain a left winger accustomed to operating high up the pitch, listed primarily as an attacking left-sided player but shaped by multiple club systems and tactical demands in Sweden. For Kabuye, the move represents a clear step into international club football, away from the domestic leagues of his dual-national home background.

The contract’s duration gives both player and club time to benefit: KuPS secure a promising attacker through the heart of his early-to-mid twenties, while Kabuye gains stability to establish himself in a new country and competition. Having already navigated a series of internal Swedish moves, he now faces a different challenge, adapting to a new league structure, new opponents, and fresh expectations.

If he continues the steady upward curve reflected in his market value history and club progression, this KuPS spell could become the defining stage of his career so far. A successful stint in the Veikkausliiga would not only enhance his reputation in the Nordic region but could also open further doors, whether back in Sweden at a higher level, elsewhere in Europe, or on the international scene for one of his two national affiliations.
