Calvin Bassey applauds Fulham’s comeback triumph over Liverpool
Calvin Bassey has hailed Fulham’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool at Craven Cottage, describing the performance as a reflection of the team’s unity and character.
Despite falling behind after just 14 minutes, Marco Silva’s side mounted a spirited response to stun the visitors and secure a vital three points in front of their home supporters.
Fulham responded through Ryan Sessegnon’s composed finish, before Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi and Brazilian striker Rodrigo Muniz added to the scoreline in a fiercely contested encounter.
Taking to social media after the match, Bassey expressed his delight at the result, posting on X (formerly known as Twitter): “MoZamBiqUe Great team performance today!”
The message, infused with celebratory enthusiasm, captured the mood in the Fulham camp after overcoming one of the Premier League’s toughest opponents.
Bassey, 25, played a key role in Fulham’s defence throughout the match. The Nigerian international has been a consistent presence under Marco Silva this season, making 29 league appearances and scoring once in the current campaign.
His defensive resilience was crucial in withstanding Liverpool’s late pressure as the Reds pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages.
Fulham’s comeback was ignited after an early setback, as Liverpool took the lead following a lapse in concentration at the back.
But Sessegnon’s equaliser midway through the first half brought renewed energy to the hosts, and within minutes, Fulham had seized control.
Iwobi’s goal, his eighth of the season, put the home side ahead before he turned provider, setting up Muniz to make it 3-1 shortly before the break.
Although Liverpool managed to reduce the deficit in the second half, Fulham held firm to see out the match, earning their first home win over the Reds in three years.
The result lifted them to eighth in the Premier League table, continuing what has been an impressive campaign for the west London club.
Speaking after the match, head coach Marco Silva praised his players for their determination and discipline. “We showed real character today.
The reaction to going behind was excellent, and the way we managed the game afterwards was very pleasing,” Silva said. “This is the type of performance we’ve been building toward.”
Bassey’s development since arriving in the Premier League has been closely watched, and Sunday’s performance further cemented his growing importance at Craven Cottage.
His pace, physicality, and composure in defence have been integral to Fulham’s stability at the back, especially in matches against top-six opposition.
With just a handful of matches remaining this season, Fulham continue to push for a strong finish in the top half of the table.
For Bassey and his teammates, the win over Liverpool serves as a statement of intent—proof that they can compete and prevail against some of the Premier League’s most formidable sides.
As the final stretch of the season approaches, Fulham will look to build on this momentum, with Bassey’s influence at the heart of their ambitions.
