CAF U-17 AFCON: Our people are proud of us - Ghana's Kpoeti twins

Twin brothers Jacob Kofi Etse Kpoeti and Esau Kofi Atsu Kpoeti have become one of the standout stories at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026, forming Ghana’s central defensive partnership on one of African football’s biggest youth stages.

For Jacob, sharing this major moment with his brother carries deep meaning. “It means a lot to us and our family. Our people are proud of us and they sat together to watch the game when we played Algeria. We saw the video and we were very happy,” he told CAFOnline.com.

Born and raised in Mepe in Ghana’s Volta Region, the twins’ journey has been shaped by both talent and strong community support. Long before arriving in Morocco, they had already become local heroes where football transformed from a childhood pastime into something more significant.

“Our parents supported us to play football, especially when we played in school and our names became popular in our community before WAFA came for us,” Jacob explained.

The West African Football Academy became the turning point in their careers, where they refined their game and developed the extraordinary understanding that makes them stand out today. Interestingly, the defensive partnership almost never happened, as Esau originally played as a winger before a coach’s decision changed everything.
