The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to make a decision on Guinea’s appeal regarding its participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This follows a complaint lodged after Guinea’s narrow 1-0 loss to Tanzania on November 19 during the final round of qualifiers.
Guinea’s football federation (FGF) raised concerns about an alleged irregularity involving Tanzanian defender Muhamed Ibrahim Ame of Mashujaa FC, who was reportedly substituted into the match with a number not listed on the official match sheet.
CAF acknowledged receipt of Guinea’s complaint and informed the FGF on November 26 that it would provide an update as soon as possible.
According to reports from the specialized platform 100% Foot on social media, CAF has scheduled a crucial meeting to address the matter.
Tanou Diallo, a Guinean journalist and CAF media officer, confirmed the development while emphasizing the significance of Tanzania’s response to the allegations.
The appeal file, initially submitted to the organizing committee, has since been referred to the ethics committee for further review.
The Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) is expected to provide an explanation, which will play a decisive role in determining the outcome of the case.
If Tanzania is found to have violated the rules, the Taifa Stars could face a penalty, including a forfeited loss.
Such a ruling would award Guinea a victory and secure its qualification for the final tournament, which is set to take place in January 2025.
The urgency of the matter is heightened by the approaching date for the AFCON draw, scheduled for January 27, 2025.
As CAF’s decision looms, Guinea waits anxiously, hopeful for a favorable outcome that would see Serhou Guirassy and the Syli National included in the prestigious competition.
