The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has initiated an urgent review of the officiating crew following errors made during the recent African Champions League match between Al-Ahly and Stade d’Abidjan. The match, which took place at Cairo International Stadium, ended in a 4-2 victory for the Egyptian side.
CAF’s refereeing supervisor has raised concerns over at least two offside decisions that favored Al-Ahly, which could have had significant implications on the outcome.
According to an exclusive statement from an unnamed source, the errors were deemed serious enough to warrant a full review.
The refereeing committee will discuss these mistakes with the linesmen involved, aiming to prevent similar issues in future matches.
Al-Ahly, despite the controversial officiating, secured an important win with goals from Mahmoud Kahraba (two), Hussein El-Shahat, and Mohamed Magdy Afsha.
With this result, the Red Devils top their group after the first round, tied on points with Orlando Pirates, who also secured a 2-1 victory over CR Belouizdad.
The CAF Referees Committee’s upcoming review highlights the governing body’s commitment to ensuring fair play and improving officiating standards in the tournament.
