The African Football Confederation (CAF) has urgently contacted the Beninese referee Louis Digendo, 24 hours before the kickoff of the Al Ahly vs. Young Africans match in the sixth and final round of the African Champions League at Cairo International Stadium.
Victor Gomez, the Vice President of CAF’s Referees Committee, emphasized the need for the match to proceed smoothly without any incidents that could cause problems for both teams.
He stressed the importance of avoiding errors that might undermine the development of refereeing in the continent and reaffirmed CAF’s commitment to support referees in every possible way.
Gomez urged Digendo, the referee for the crucial match that will determine the Group D leader, to be confident in his decisions and not be influenced by the pressures from the field, the crowd, or the technical staff surrounding him.
He emphasized the referee’s responsibility to ensure fairness to both teams regardless of their colors, aiming to prevent anything from disrupting the atmosphere of this encounter, as CAF seeks to showcase its tournaments in a strong and positive light.
Digendo, along with his team of officials from Benin, including Eric Imavo, Louis Houngnonto, and fourth official Tensila Diagatchi, will officiate the Al Ahly vs. Young Africans match.
The outcome of this match will determine the final standings in the group, with Al Ahly currently leading with 9 points and Young Africans following closely with 8 points.
