CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba dismisses allegations amid investigations

CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba dismisses allegations amid investigations

Véron Mosengo-Omba, the Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has expressed confidence despite ongoing investigations into his conduct, asserting that he is unperturbed by the scrutiny. Speaking after the CAF General Assembly in Addis Ababa on October 22, 2024, Mosengo-Omba noted that he had the full support of CAF President Patrice Motsepe and maintained that the allegations against him were “baseless.”

In recent weeks, Mosengo-Omba had faced serious but unconfirmed accusations.

These were largely circulated through media leaks, with no substantiated evidence to date.

At the General Assembly, he seized the opportunity to reject the allegations, calling them unfounded.

There are suspicions, allegations; it is normal that we investigate to verify if what is said is true or not,” Mosengo-Omba explained.

Me and my administration, we are calm, and we are waiting for the conclusions of the investigation.”

While the Executive Committee (Comex) of CAF has yet to comment publicly on the matter, sources suggest that the topic will be deferred until the next Comex meeting in December.

This meeting will coincide with CAF’s visit to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—nations set to host major tournaments in the coming years.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Mosengo-Omba remains unshaken, stressing that an independent firm has been tasked with verifying the facts behind the allegations.

We cannot prevent dishonest people from transforming this into something else,” he added.

However, the absence of an appointed external audit firm, as recommended by the Joint Governance and Audit Commission, continues to fuel speculation and confusion, with some observers questioning the integrity of the process.

As the investigation progresses, many will be watching closely to see if these concerns will be addressed, or if Mosengo-Omba’s position will remain secure.
