The decision of the CAF Disciplinary Jury in the case involving the Congolese Football Federation and the Federación Ecuatoguineana de Fútbol underscores the importance of adherence to established rules and regulations in international football competitions.
Following a thorough investigation into the CHAN 2024 qualifiers, the jury found multiple violations committed by the Congolese Football Federation.
These included failure to present valid national licenses and the fielding of an ineligible player, Mr. Mankou Nguembete Japhet Eloi, during Matches No. 1 and No. 2 between Congo and Equatorial Guinea.
As a result, the matches have been declared lost by forfeit for Congo, with a 3-0 victory awarded to Equatorial Guinea.
Additionally, the Congolese Football Federation has been fined USD 10,000, payable within 60 days.
This penalty serves as a stern reminder of the necessity of compliance with CAF’s regulatory framework, including Articles 2, 12, 38, and 150 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
The decision also highlights the procedural rights afforded to parties, including the right to request detailed reasons and to appeal within specified timeframes.
By upholding the principles of fairness and accountability, CAF demonstrates its commitment to maintaining the integrity of African football and ensuring a level playing field for all participants.
