A source from the African Union’s referees committee has put an end to the debate regarding the possibility of changing the VAR referees in both legs of the Confederation Cup final, due to Zamalek’s objection to their nationality conflicting with that of the head coach of Tunisia’s RS Berkane, Moein Chaabani.
The source stated exclusively to El Watan Sport: “Firstly, no club can request a change of referee or object to a referee. Furthermore, the referees announced by some media outlets for both legs of the Confederation Cup final will remain unchanged, except in the event of an emergency affecting any of the referees.
Otherwise, nothing will change. Clubs have previously attempted to change referees and manage their matches with different referees, but they have not succeeded and they will not succeed.”
Zamalek objected to the presence of Tunisian referees in the VAR for both legs of the Confederation Cup final. In the first leg, Tunisian referee Haythem Guirat will oversee the VAR, while in the second leg, Tunisian referee Khalil Hassani will be in charge of the VAR.
