The Disciplinary Council of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has delivered substantial sanctions targeting several individuals involved in post-match misconduct. The notable figures in question include Hamari Traoré and Krépin Diatta.
The tension-laden quarter-final encounter between Mali and Ivory Coast witnessed an unsavory incident involving Hamari Traoré, the Real Sociedad defender.
Following the conclusion of the match, Traoré confronted the referee, leading to disciplinary actions by CAF.
The council has imposed a four-match suspension on Traoré, with two matches suspended for a one-year period. Additionally, the Malian Football Federation has been fined US$10,000 in connection with the incident.
Krépin Diatta, the Senegalese international, faced repercussions for his remarks after Senegal’s round-of-16 defeat to Ivory Coast.
The comments, deemed detrimental to CAF’s image, resulted in a four-match suspension for Diatta, with two matches suspended over a one-year timeframe.
A financial penalty of US$10,000 was also imposed on the player.
These sanctions underscore CAF’s commitment to upholding fair play and sportsmanship, emphasizing the need for players and officials to adhere to the highest standards of conduct on and off the field.
The decisions aim to send a strong message regarding the consequences of behavior that undermines the integrity and spirit of the game.
