The Confederation of African Football has imposed a series of disciplinary sanctions on the Senegalese Football Federation following incidents during the final of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
CAF’s Disciplinary Panel confirmed that Senegal’s head coach, players and supporters were found to have breached multiple provisions of the CAF Disciplinary Code after reviewing reports from the final.
The rulings include match suspensions, significant financial penalties and formal warnings.
Senegal head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw received the most severe individual punishment. He has been suspended for five official CAF matches for unsportsmanlike behaviour, violations of fair play and integrity, and for actions deemed to have damaged the image of football. In addition to the suspension, Thiaw was fined USD 100,000.
Two Senegalese players were also sanctioned. Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaïla Sarr were each suspended for two official CAF matches after being found guilty of unsportsmanlike behaviour towards the referee during the final.
CAF further imposed a series of fines on the Senegalese Football Federation itself.
The federation was fined USD 300,000 for the inappropriate behaviour of its supporters, which the panel ruled had harmed the image of football.
A further USD 300,000 fine was imposed for the unsportsmanlike conduct of players and technical staff, citing violations of principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity.
An additional fine of USD 15,000 was levied against the federation for disciplinary misconduct after five Senegal players were shown warnings during the match.
The sanctions follow a detailed disciplinary review process conducted by CAF in the aftermath of the final, which was marred by multiple flashpoints on and off the pitch.
CAF stated that the measures were taken in line with its regulations to protect the integrity of the competition.
The rulings bring formal closure to the disciplinary proceedings involving Senegal, with the suspensions to be served in future CAF competitions.
