CAF fines Benin $30,000 for misconduct in AFCON qualifier against Rwanda
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a $30,000 fine on Benin following incidents of misconduct during their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Rwanda in October 2024.
The match, held at the Amahoro Stadium on October 15, saw the Squirrels suffer a 2-1 loss to Rwanda’s Amavubi.
Tensions flared at the final whistle, as Benin’s players and technical staff stormed the pitch to confront Malagasy referee Rakotojaona Andofetra.
The chaotic scenes, documented in reports by the Match Commissioner and the referee, prompted CAF to take disciplinary action against the West African side.
Despite their defeat, Benin secured qualification for the AFCON tournament, set to be hosted in Morocco later this year.
Meanwhile, Rwanda narrowly missed out on a spot in the prestigious competition.
