The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is holding an Executive Committee meeting on Friday, February 13, with several important decisions and reports expected to be presented.
The session comes amid growing anticipation over African football’s upcoming events and competitions.
One of the key topics on the agenda is the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite circulating rumours, CAF has confirmed that the tournament will not be postponed.
Inspections of the host countries—Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya—are continuing until February 17, and official updates will be provided by the CAF Secretary General during the meeting.
The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has also been confirmed, with the competition scheduled to run from March 17 to April 26.
Journalists and media outlets have until today to complete their accreditation applications, highlighting the event’s high profile and growing media interest across the continent.
CAF’s Executive Committee will also review all men’s and women’s competitions, alongside the bidding process for future editions.
Discussions will include preliminary planning for the 2036 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2037 Nations League, reflecting the organisation’s long-term strategic vision.
Refereeing and VAR performance will also be under the spotlight. The chairman of the Referees Committee is set to present a report on the performance of officials and video assistant referees during the last AFCON.
The assessment is intended to improve officiating standards and ensure fair play in future competitions.
Finally, the meeting will address incidents during the recent AFCON final. Detailed reports from the Disciplinary Committee will be presented, providing insight into measures taken and lessons learned to enhance the safety and smooth running of African tournaments going forward.
The CAF Executive Committee meeting promises to be a decisive moment for African football, with outcomes expected to influence both men’s and women’s competitions, officiating standards, and preparations for future continental tournaments.
