Reports from Algerian newspapers have revealed that the main referees committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to exclude Moroccan referee Redouane Jiyed from the list of international referees due to his conduct during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Jiyed had refused to officiate the third-place play-off match in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast as a protest against not being assigned to referee the final match between Nigeria and Ivory Coast.
Algerian newspaper “El Chourouk” stated: “The referees committee of the African Football Confederation has decided to definitively exclude Moroccan referee Redouane Jiyed from the list of accredited referees for international matches.”
The report added: “The decision of the referees committee regarding Redouane Jiyed came after the referee refused to officiate the third-place play-off match in the recent Africa Cup of Nations, which was held in Ivory Coast.”
It is worth mentioning that the Ivorian national team succeeded in winning the Africa Cup of Nations title after defeating the Nigerian national team in the final match with a score of two goals to one.
