Sewé Sports of San Pedro is set to face Bayelsa United of Nigeria at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Abidjan for the Confederation Cup play-off matches. As two-time consecutive champions of Ivory Coast (2012, 2013) and vice champions in 2006, the Ivorian club is familiar with its Nigerian opponent.
“We admittedly don’t have much information about the Nigerians. However, we anticipate facing an English-speaking team with a strong winning mentality. We expect them to play physical football, but we are prepared to counter their style,” confides Sewé Sports coach, Rigo Gervais, in remarks to camfoot.com.
“Our objective this year is to make a significant impact in the competition. We aim to demonstrate that our previous setback in the Champions League was merely a temporary setback. The players have regained their confidence, and we are determined to play to our strengths,” adds Gervais.
The coach believes that his team must secure a convincing victory with a two or three-goal difference to gain an advantage before the return leg. “That would be ideal heading into the second match,” he concludes.
