Espérance de Tunis Reinforce Squad After Confederation Cup Setback
Following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Al Ahly in their opening group-stage match of the CAF Confederation Cup, Espérance de Tunis are wasting no time in strengthening their squad ahead of the next round of fixtures.
The Tunisian giants have announced the addition of three new players: Chaker Reguii, Elyes Jelassi, and Bernard Balboa. All three are expected to be registered in time for the club’s upcoming clash against domestic rivals Etoile du Sahel on July 11th — a crucial fixture as Espérance aim to get their CAF campaign back on track.
In addition to the trio, the club is working to finalize a deal for Fakhreddine Ben Youssef, the Tunisian international currently on the books at French side FC Metz. The striker is seen as a key reinforcement in the attacking department and could become the fourth new arrival in what is shaping up to be a busy transfer window for the Sang et Or.
The heavy loss to Al Ahly served as a wake-up call for Espérance, who are determined to avoid an early exit from the continental competition. With a strengthened squad and renewed focus, the Tunisian side will hope to bounce back quickly when they take on Etoile in what promises to be a highly charged North African derby.
Espérance, one of Africa’s most successful clubs, will be banking on the experience and fresh energy of their new recruits to revive their fortunes in the competition.
